This is personal portfolio piece that I made in one day. I wanted to challenge myself how far I can push the realism using V-Ray and almost only VrayMtl nodes and blend nodes.
The Lighthouse is a model I created about ten years ago using Lightwave 9 and Photoshop. I was able to convert the textures to PBR and get it working with V-Ray seamlessly. The rock assets are from Quixel Megascans.
Most challenging was to get the foam behave properly. Using V-RayDistanceTex I was able to distribute the foam to near any objects, I just had to remember to add them after adding more objects to coast.
I used two foam textures, one with overall smaller foam parts and thicker one that was to be distributed near objects.
Then I used a gradient ramp (with that lovely turbulent noise) and V-Ray blend material to mix two versions of the rock materials, one darker with the wet materials that was touched by water and the ordinary one. This was to ensure that the rocks didn't look too dry in the ocean.
I exported render elements from V-Ray to Photoshop and composited the final image.
I accept freelance work.
